Villa La Vigie
The Story
Set on the water’s edge overlooking the Principality of Monaco, the villa was Karl Lagerfeld’s home for over a decade.
Built in 1902 by the British publisher Sir William Ingram in the full Belle Époque style, Villa La Vigie, French for the lookout, perches on a rocky promontory above the Mediterranean, facing the sea on three sides.
Lagerfeld first spotted the villa from across the bay while lunching at the Monte‑Carlo Country Club, and Prince Rainier III offered him the house for life if he would restore it. From 1988 onward La Vigie became the backdrop to countless Chanel campaigns, and a house, in his own words, “all about the light.” The home became available to privatize in 2021.
The Area
Villa La Vigie sits on the border of Monaco and Roquebrune‑Cap‑Martin, only minutes from the heart of Monte Carlo.
